Let’s talk about the importance of a good yoga mat. Even though we use them everyday in our yoga classes, I have always taken the features of a good yoga mat for granted – until now. That’s why I want to share with you the importance of a good yoga mat. And trust me, once you have a good mat, you’ll know it. It took me 20 years to find one that made me realise the difference that a good quality yoga mat could make.
Align your body into positions
After trialling many mats I was surprised to find that having an alignment system on the mat is a wonderful enhancement to my practice. I had heard about the alignment system on Liforme mats and thought that it was a gimmick, however as I began to practice with one of these mats I realised that it was helping me to safely and securely align myself into postures. Now if it was helping me feel safely aligned and I have 20 years of practice behind me, how valuable could this be to beginners?
Feel secure in any position
Another feature of a good mat is having a good anti-slip material. If you practice yoga you’ll know a slippy mat when practicing is not only frustrating but highly distracting. Having a good anti-slip mat will help you to focus on the more important parts of your practice. With a good mat you will feel securely in place in any posture you are practicing.
Kind to you and kind to the planet
Did you know that normal PVC yoga mats can take over a hundred years to biodegrade and are often made out of materials with lots of chemicals? It is something that I think is often not spoken about, even though it is so important. A PVC free mat will biodegrade in just 1-2yrs. A good quality mat will be made with non-toxic, planet friendly material which means they are both kind to you, and to the planet.
Advocates for Liforme
So the more I read and the more knowledge I gained around yoga mats, the more passionate I felt about Same Star Yoga becoming advocates for Liforme. We now stock Liforme mats in our studio and want our kula to reap the rewards that these mats have to offer.
That is not to say if our students don’t have a Liforme mat you’re not part of the kula, you know we don’t care about any of that b*******. Everyone is always welcome whatever they choose to practice on or with. We are simply advocating the mats that we have chosen for ourselves based on our own research and experience and making it easier for you to find out more about them.
We understand that buying one of these mats is a big commitment, and I wouldn’t take it lightly. So if you are wanting to make a genuine, long-term commitment to yoga, then a Liforme mat could be a great investment for you.
I had to save up for a while to buy mine. But after all these years of never having a decent mat I can honestly say it’s been worth the wait to find the best one and there are so many incredible features of these mats that make them worth paying extra.
Find the right mat for you
We also want to say that there are other great mats out there if these don’t fit your budget. We’ve tried many over the years so why not have a chat with us about what you are looking for in a mat and we will try to find the best one for you! However, if you do decide Liforme is for you we have them in stock at the yoga studio, so let us know and we’ll keep one aside for you. There is an amazing range to choose from, including a lovely limited edition range.
