The Art of Sacred Touch – Hands on Assists – within our Yoga Classes
We have been through an intense time where hands on adjustments have been hugely questionable for many different reasons.
We’ve probably all had touch in a yoga environment that felt questionable and generally we can put it down to the ahamkara of “I know what’s right for you” or “errrr I don’t really know what I’m doing here but I’ll do it anyway because I feel I should” either way the ego is in play and this really needs to be fully eradicated before we start touching our students in class.
So rather than throw touch out completely, we hope that with the right training, understanding and insight we will be able to help teachers find a way back to giving hands on assists that feel nourishing, guiding and supportive.
It has honestly taken me years to fine tune & to feel comfortable giving hands on adjustments to my students’. My Thai Yoga Massage Teacher Training (13 weeks in Chiang Mai) has greatly helped with this but generally, I believe it comes down to repetition & confidence.
I don’t want to sell a course to you and send you out to practice immediately in your class, your class is not the place for practice. This is why I have devised handouts and video links for you to take home from this course, that you can use to go back to and practice with friends and loved ones until you start hearing the “hmmm that feels great” comments and initially it may only be one.
So gently, one at a time we drop these assists in to our classes that we feel confident in, using the SSY principles of assists as given in the handouts.
What I hope is that you will keep coming back to me for more support with this training, it’s not something to be taken lightly and maybe you yourself need to feel it more in your own body so as to know how these techniques should be applied.
It is a practice that should be considered as sacred and so therefore treated and respected as such.
I really look forward to working with you and supporting you in an art that continues to be something that pulls us all together instead of many things in life now that are pulling us apart.
What to expect
Loved by many, hated by many, but ultimately doesn’t it come down to who, what, where, when & how?
If the points below can be ticked then surely we want to continue to offer the potentially beautiful art of touch within our classes?

What our students say
Janet OliverYou asked for feedback on my experience at Same Star Yoga, so here goes: The location - Really convenient! I'm delighted the studio is so close to my home. Design and interior 'decor' - A beautiful, calm and relaxing space. Perfect for practising Yoga. Teachers - All the classes I've attended have been expertly led. The teachers are very attentive to students' needs & requirements. Prices - Very reasonable. I like the idea of the multi-class passes, which are very handy for those of us who want to try out different sessions.
Cristina LorenettiI can't recommend this studio and the teachers Faye and Samantha at Same Star yoga enough. I am now doing my Yoga Teacher Training with them which I feel shows how highly I regard their level of tuition.
Pernilla VizardI just booked my first class with you, so looking forward to seeing your studio! I’ve been practising with Gaye Gorman since I moved here five years ago, but since lockdown it’s been all on line so cherishing the chance to go to a live yoga class again. Your website is beautiful and so many exciting classes on offer. I wish you every good fortune in this new venture.
